Today there are thousands
of NGOs around the world who are developing information,
but the data so generated is lying unused and undistributed
to a large extent due to the limited reach of the organisations
that develop and own the information. Online Resource
Centre (ORC) is a Voluntary Health Association of India
(VHAI) and Sasakawa Peace Foundation’s collaborative
effort to address the problems faced by NGOs and development
organisations in accessing information that is already
available but not accessible when required. ORC is a web
based information network and provides a one-stop shop
for development information and NGO products and services.
-
Build a network of
NGOs working in India in various sectors of development
and health
-
Facilitate grassroots
NGOs to widely distribute/disseminate their publications
and reports to the recipients
-
ORC will be a virtual
meeting point for civil society, as well as a hub
of information on the World Wide Web for NGOs in India.
Through this platform, NGOs will have the opportunity
to publicize their initiatives and gain awareness
of what is happening in other NGOs in the country
in the spheres of democratic development, political
and economic reforms and human rights
-
Provide a gateway
for communication and cooperation between organisations
and foundations interested in the developmental activities
in India
The overall goal of the ORC is to test scalable, sustainable
approaches to bridging the digital divide in information
and between research, policy and practice. The specific
objectives are to:
-
Solve the gaps between
NPOs and the recipients
-
Facilitate an internet
based network of service providers, researchers and
policy makers on priority issues and issues of common
concern
-
Provide and test content,
connectivity and training options to enable optimal
use of this network
-
Enhance the capacity
of local research institutions and medical libraries
to support and scale up the ORC
Target:
-
NGOs/NPOs
-

& individuals
-
